Greek Wine Tasting Offers Preview to Memphis Greek Festival's 50th Anniversary
Jim's Place Grille Hosts Event Set for April 17

 

  • MEMPHIS -- As the Memphis Greek Festival gets ready to celebrate its 50th Anniversary on May 9 and 10th, the community can experience a preview of Greek wines and foods at a wine tasting set for 6:30 p.m. on April 17 at Jim's Place Grille in Collierville. The wine tasting will also feature recognition of the festival's 2008 nonprofit recipients -Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center and Youth Villages.

    The wine tasting will feature four Greek wines and an assortment of appetizers from the menu at Jim's Place Grille on April 17 at 6:30 p.m.

    Some of the favorites include spanakopeta (spinach- stuffed puff pastry), souflima (char-grilled pork tenderloin), saganaki (flaming cheese), and tiropetakia (cheese-stuffed puff pastry).

    The Memphis Greek Festival is the largest fundraising event for the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, and many of these foods are also served during the festival. "We want to give back to our church in whatever way possible," said Dimitri Taras, co-owner of Jim's Place Grille. "When Nick [Kourvelas, Chairman of this year's festival] approached us about the wine tasting, we immediately saw this as a chance to give our community the chance celebrate the festival's 50th anniversary a little bit early!"

    The wine tasting costs $18 per person and includes a full course of appetizers and four wines. The event is open to the public.
